The University of York, in partnership with the Holbeck Charitable Trust, is happy to announce the Holbeck Scholarship for the academic year 2025/2026.This scholarship offers a one-off award of £1,750 to support talented undergraduate students from the Yorkshire and Humber region who are commencing their first year of study at any UK university in September 2025.

The Holbeck Scholarship is designed to support academically talented students from the Yorkshire and Humber region who are applying to any UK university for undergraduate studies beginning in September 2025. Recognising that some students face significant barriers be they social, personal, or educational the scholarship rewards resilience, determination, and academic promise.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Holbeck Scholarship, students must meet all of the following:

  • Attend a school or college in Yorkshire and Humber

  • Be a permanent UK resident, classified as “Home” for fee purposes

  • Be in the UCAS application process, aiming to start university in 2025

  • Have predicted grades of ABB or higher at A-level (or equivalent)

  • Be committed to attending and completing a university course

In addition, students must satisfy at least two of the following conditions:

  • In receipt of or entitled to discretionary payments at school/college OR have a household income below £42,875

  • Be a first-generation applicant (no parent/guardian attended higher education)

  • Have overcome significant challenges, such as:

    • Care experience or estrangement from family

    • Disability or long-term health condition

    • Refugee or asylum seeker status
