This award is unique as it is funded by former students and friends of the University making it a scholarship by alumni, for alumni. Each year, one deserving graduate is selected to receive full funding for a research degree, with the goal of supporting those who have not only excelled academically but also actively contributed to the wider University community.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

• Hold (or expect to hold) a Bachelor’s degree with a 1st or 2.1, or a Master’s degree with Merit or Distinction from the University of Kent.

• Have an offer for a PhD research programme at Kent for the academic year 2025/26 (part-time or full-time).

• Demonstrate involvement in the University community, such as:

  • Students’ Union roles

  • Participation in societies or sports teams

  • Volunteering

  • Serving as a student representative

• Show exceptional communication skills, with the ability to:

  • Explain research clearly to a non-specialist audience

  • Convey passion and relevance of research

• Be available for a video interview on 30 July 2025.

• Be willing to serve as an ambassador for the University and assist in fundraising activities.

Benefits

• Tuition Fees: Covered at the home fee rate (£4,786 for 2024/25).

• Maintenance Grant: Matches the UK Research Councils’ rate (£19,237 for 2024/25).

• Duration: Initially awarded for 1 year, renewable up to 3.5 years based on satisfactory progress.

• Ambassador Role: Attend alumni events (up to two per year), contribute to University publications.
