Background 

The Raheem Sterling Foundation is committed to uplifting young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with the necessary financial and educational support. Launched in 2023, the foundation’s partnership with The University of Manchester aims to support seven students over three years, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their academic ambitions.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Identify as belonging to one of the following ethnic groups:
    • Black or Black British – Caribbean
    • Black or Black British – African
    • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
    • Mixed – White and Black African
    • Other Black background
  • Have a home postcode within Greater Manchester.
  • Have applied to study a degree at The University of Manchester starting in September 2025.
  • Have applied for income-assessed UK government financial support and consented to share information with the university.
  • Be assessed as a ‘home’ student for fee purposes.

Priority will be given to students based on personal, socio-economic, and higher education progression factors.

Benefits

The selected students will receive:

  • Full coverage of tuition fees for the duration of their three-year degree (excluding intercalation, study abroad, or industrial placement years).
  • An annual maintenance bursary of £8,000, paid in two instalments (October and February).
