This scholarship scheme is designed to support refugees, asylum seekers, and individuals with humanitarian protection or related immigration status who are currently residing in the United Kingdom and have secured an offer for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught study at the University of Glasgow.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Sanctuary Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Academic & Residency Requirements

• Hold a firm conditional or unconditional offer for full-time study at the University of Glasgow for 2026/2027

• Be currently living in the UK

• Have Home or RUK Rest of UK fee status

Immigration & Sanctuary Status

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

• Have submitted an asylum claim in the UK

• Be actively appealing a negative asylum decision

• Have been granted Refugee Status, Humanitarian Protection (HP), or Discretionary Leave (DL)

OR have arrived in the UK under one of these schemes:

• UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS)

• Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme

• Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP)

• Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS)

• Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme (Homes for Ukraine)

• Ukraine Family Scheme

The Sanctuary Scholarship provides a combination of tuition fee support and living cost assistance, depending on your funding eligibility:

What the Scholarship Covers

• Full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the programme if you are not eligible for Student Finance or SAAS

• £5,000 per year stipend to support study-related costs

Special Notes by Study Level

• Undergraduate students with refugee status and access to funding:

  • Eligible for the £5,000 stipend only

• Postgraduate Taught (Masters) students with refugee status and access to funding:

  • Eligible for £5,000 stipend + partial tuition fee waiver to cover any shortfall after a Postgraduate Masters Loan

The scholarship is open to applicants from a wide range of countries, including but not limited to:
India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Syria, Ukraine, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Sudan, Yemen, and many more across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.

• ARC or BRP front & back

• Immigration Bail Reporting Notice all pages

If not subject to Bail Reporting:

• ARC or BRP front & back

• Most recent Home Office correspondence showing reference number

• A valid UK government share code confirming your right to study
