The Hywel Davies Scholarship was created in honour of William Hywel John Davies, a University of Birmingham alumnus who graduated with a BA in French and Spanish in 1977. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Hywel Davies Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be an undergraduate student in the Department of Modern Languages, studying French or Spanish
  • Be in the first year of study
  • Have a household income below £60,000, means tested and eligible for a Maintenance Loan from the Student Loans Company loan does not have to be taken
  • Not be in receipt of the Chamberlain Award or Pathways to Birmingham Scholarship
  • Be classified as a Home student

  • Applicable throughout studies at Birmingham, excluding any years abroad
