Eligibility Criteria

1. Programme Eligibility

  • Must apply for a Master’s programme run by the Faculty of Medicine.

  • Programme must start in October 2026.

  • Available for full-time or part-time study.

  • Open to MSc, MRes, or PG Cert if that is the only route to a higher degree.

  • Not available to continuing students.

2. Residence Eligibility

  • Open to talented candidates from around the world Home and Overseas applicants.

  • Applies to both Dean’s Master’s Scholarships and Dr. Jean Alero Thomas Scholarships.

3. Academic Eligibility

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Outstanding academic performance.

  • Normally a First Class UK Honours degree or equivalent.

  • Being among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort.

Applicants with:

  • A second-class degree,

  • Non-traditional academic backgrounds,

  • Health professionals without a formal degree,

may still be considered if they can demonstrate exceptional academic potential and relevant professional experience.

Benefits

There are:

  • Up to 11 scholarships worth £10,000 towards tuition fees.

  • One full tuition scholarship covered at the Home fee rate only for a lab-based MSc or MRes programme.

These awards are available for programmes run by the Faculty of Medicine only.

  • Immunology and Inflammation

  • Infectious Disease

  • Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction

  • National Heart and Lung Institute

  • School of Public Health

  • You do not need to wait for an offer before applying for the scholarship.

  • However, your Master’s programme application must be submitted first.
