When it comes to choosing the right university in the UK, international students often look for institutions that combine strong academic foundations, industry connections, and opportunities to innovate. The University of West London (UWL), particularly its London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism (LGCHT), is proving to be just that a future-focused institution preparing students for leadership in the global hospitality industry.

The University of West London (UWL) has a rich history dating back to 1860, when it was originally founded as the Lady Byron School. Over the years, it evolved through various mergers and name changes before becoming UWL in 2010. Known for its strong focus on career-oriented education and industry links, the university has developed a reputation for excellence in areas such as hospitality, music, nursing, and business. Recently, a team of MA Luxury Hospitality Management students from UWL made headlines by securing second place in the highly competitive Future Leaders Challenge 2025, held at The Derby St Pancras in London. Competing against 12 other top-tier teams from hospitality institutions across the UK, students Zerina Kuka, Gela Dzirkvadze, Keerthana Srinivas, and Anna Éva Kovács impressed judges with a smart, thoughtful response to a pressing industry challenge.

Their task? To explore how digital transformation is reshaping workforce needs in the hospitality and tourism sectors in the UK and Ireland. UWL’s team rose to the occasion by creating a smartwatch application designed to streamline hospitality staff workflows while monitoring their mental and physical wellbeing. Their solution tackled not only operational efficiency but also staff wellness  a critical issue in today’s service industry.
