Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

1. Ethnicity Requirement

Applicants must identify as belonging to one of the following groups:

  • Black or Black British Caribbean

  • Black or Black British African

  • Mixed White and Black Caribbean

  • Mixed White and Black African

  • Other Black background

2. Residency and Nationality

  • Must be Black British

  • Must be resident in the UK

3. Academic Requirements

  • Must have firmly accepted an offer for a first undergraduate full-time degree programme at Birkbeck beginning September 2026

  • Must be classified as a Home student

4. Financial Requirements

  • Annual household income of £35,000 or less

  • Must have applied for and received confirmation of full income-assessed financial support for 2026–2027 from:

    • Student Finance England

    • Student Finance Wales

    • Student Finance Northern Ireland

    • Student Awards Agency for Scotland

5. Academic Progression

Continued funding each year depends on satisfactory academic progress.
